At the men’s shows in Italy and Paris, I carried around my summer “sweat bandana”. Sometimes I tie this at the end of a braid to conceal its function. Despite the heat (truly stifling), everyone looked very good. Sweat does work wonders for the skin, and menswear guys work wonders with linen weights. Brunello Cucinelli, utterly unbothered, held court for hours in a salmon-red sport coat, greeting guests like he was under a Tuscan breeze.
Italians really do have a different heat tolerance. And thankfully, everyone’s loosening up—even Brunello. His latest collection included a new jacket silhouette—big lapels, extra-long length—a quiet thrill for anyone who follows his work. There were 80s nods throughout: soft peach tones, pleated trousers, and graphic tees printed with Italian stone carvings. The kind Peter Saville might understand.
