Milan, Venice and Rome have grown on me, but Florence was immediate. An elegant city with gentle charm, a balance of history, craft, and countryside. In Florence, you get to know people quickly and see them regularly. The quiet moments and exploration are the most memorable here, so I try to go slowly, but that’s tricky with restaurants, shops, tailors and piazzas that I always want to visit—many listed below here.
I stay in Oltrarno, the calmer side of the Arno river. It’s more local and less touristic.
